Playbook Connectors for Slack

You can add connectors to Slack channels so that playbooks can route data to those channels.

Before You Start

Adding a Slack connector requires adding a custom app to your Slack instance. Ask your Slack admin if you have permission to add apps.

Step 1: Generate the Slack Token

Important: If you create multiple Slack connectors for the same workspace, use the same Slack token for all of them. Generating a new token will automatically deactivate any previously issued tokens for that workspace.

Use the following steps to generate the Slack token:

1. Click the Integrations tab.

2. Click Slack tab.

3. Enter a name for the connector.

  • This is the name that will display in the list of connectors.

4. Enter the name of the Slack channel exactly as it appears in Slack (omitting leading symbols like #).

5. Click Here to navigate to the Slack Installation page

6. Click Add to Slack.

The Bolster Playbooks app will request permission to be added to Slack.

7. When the Allow button is enabled, click it.

8. Copy the generated token from the Slack Installation page.

Step 2: Add the Bolster Playbooks App on Slack

1. In Slack, go to the channel you specified in the New Connector screen.

2. Click the channel dropdown to display channel details.

3. Click Add an App.

4. Find the Bolster Playbooks entry and click Add.

Step 3: Paste the Token Into the Connector Screen and Test

1. Return to the New Connector screen.

2. Paste the token in the Slack Token field.

3. Click Test Connector.

You should see success messages on the New Connector screen and in the Slack channel.

4. Click Save on the New Connector screen.

Using Multiple Connectors

You can create multiple Slack connectors for the same workspace to send notifications to different channels.

Each connector must specify a unique channel, but you should reuse the same Slack token for all connectors in that workspace. If a new Slack token is generated, any previously issued tokens for that workspace become inactive.

Each playbook can output results to only one Slack connector. To send the same results to multiple channels, create additional playbooks or use your own Slack automations.
